Dominoes 🤌
"Dominoes basketball" on offense is a strategy where one successful move creates a series of scoring chances, like knocking over the first domino in a line. Here's a breakdown:
Initial Action: This could be a pick-and-roll, isolation, or any offensive play designed to create an advantage. The goal is to force the defense into a compromised position, such as needing to help or rotate.
Exploit the Advantage: Once the defense is out of position, the offense must quickly capitalize. This might involve:
Driving to the basket if the defense is slow to rotate.
Passing to an open shooter if the defense collapses into the paint.
Finding the open man if the defense overcommits to stopping the initial action.
Secondary Actions: If the defense adjusts to the initial breakdown, the offense must continue to move the ball and make decisions that keep the defense scrambling. This can involve:
Swinging the ball to the weak side where defenders are slower to recover.
Using additional screens or cuts to further break down the defense.
Keeping the pace high to maintain the advantage.
Ball Movement and Player Movement: Effective "dominoes" offense requires constant ball and player movement. Players need to make quick decisions, read the defense, and react accordingly. The ball should not stick in one place for too long.
Scoring Opportunity: The ultimate goal is to create a high-quality scoring opportunity, whether it's an open shot, a layup, or drawing a foul. The key is to maintain the advantage created by the initial action through continuous movement and smart decision-making.
In essence, "dominoes basketball" on offense is about creating a chain reaction that keeps the defense off-balance and unable to recover, leading to better scoring opportunities.
The Celtics 🍀 have been doing this at a very high level!
