GRIT 💪 (Angela Duckworth)
Grit is the combination of perseverance & passion for a long term meaningful goal.
Grit is the ability to stay tenacious at the top of your goal hierarchy, and a way to do that is with balanced self-talk!
Joy doesn’t arise from ruminating about our emotions. It comes from immersing ourselves in worthwhile experiences .
A way to do that in sports is to Figure out Self-1 & Self-2
Trying hard = the energy of Self-1. Self 1 = the Ego mind, that thinks, comments & judges. (More on this in the coming Newsletters).
Effort = the energy used by Self-2 to do the work necessary. Self 2 = the subconscious mind, or body that relies on base instincts to do things like breathe or shoot a basketball.
Learn to see the game non-judgmentally- to see what is happening rather than quickly labeling experiences as ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ Work on relaxed concentration, this allows you to be more gritty.
