π Managing Off-Season π§±
Coaches & Players - Four things to ask yourself after the season ends from Drew Hanlen:
What did I do well this season?
What did I do poorly this season?
What should I have done differently?
What do I need to improve on this summer?
"Show me a coach that says, "I wish my players would have done (insert anything here)
this summer," in the fall, and I'll show you a bad coach."
As coaches, our job is to get players to do the things they need to do, whether they want to do them or not. A big part of coaching is holding our players accountable for doing everything they can to help improve the team's chances of winning, which includes working hard throughout the off-season to improve their game.
Throughout the off-season, a non-negotiable skill development program is a MUST!
Keys to a great off-season skill development program:
ο»Ώο»Ώο»ΏCreate a list of all the things that you need/want to improve
ο»Ώο»Ώο»ΏPrioritize your list, putting what you need to improve most at the top
ο»Ώο»Ώο»ΏDevelop a strategic plan to attack your prioritized items
ο»Ώο»Ώο»ΏTrack and monitor progress
ο»Ώο»Ώο»ΏConstantly evaluate your progress and tweak your plan to get better results
Two BIG things to remember:
ο»Ώο»Ώο»ΏUntil you address your top priority, you should not move on to anything else.
It's your top priority for a reason.ο»Ώο»Ώο»ΏIf your weaknesses at the end of last season are your weaknesses at the beginning of next season, you've wasted your entire summer!
